Arlette Lillian Scharfenberg, 83, of Ft. Myers, formerly of Staten Island NY heard her Savior call her home to be with Him on Sunday, November 8, 2015 surrounded by her devoted husband Carl and her children. She was born on June 23, 1932 in Brooklyn New York to Gotfred and Agnes Andersen, who along with her sister Evelyn Merkel preceded her in death.
Arlette and her family moved to Ft. Myers in 1974 and have been a part of the First Assembly of God family for 42 years. She met the love of her life when she decided to go on a canoe trip with a group from the church, and got to share a canoe with Carl Scharfenberg. Carl and his two daughters and Arlette and her five children became one family when they married on November 6, 1983. The rest is a beautiful love story. They celebrated 32 years of marriage just before her passing.
We, along with everyone who knew her, will always cherish the memory of her angelic singing, smile and laughter. She was in a class all her own and yet she was not afraid of hard work and sacrifice for anyone in need. The elegance and grace that was "Beautiful Arlette" is matchless.
She is survived by her beloved husband Carl Scharfenberg, seven loving children, Gail Velasquez (Pepe), Glenn Paulsen (Tammy), Donette Forge't (Gerry), Christine Gustafson (John), Andrea DeCaro (John), Edith Houghton (Earl) and Suzi Goodman (Barry), 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
