Bertha Idel Porter

Bertha Idel Porter, 91, a lifelong resident of Florida, passed away Monday, July 3, 2023. She was born June 19, 1932 in Bonifay, FL to Shelby and Ila Bess, now deceased. Preceded in death by husband, Earl; daughter, Faith Lynette; great granddaughter, Katie, grandson, Bill-Bill; and several brothers and sisters.

Bertha, lovingly known as “Bert” was of the Mormon faith. She was a friend and granny to many throughout the years. Bert owned Bert’s New & Used as well as the Clothesline secondhand stores. One of her many passions was buying and selling. She loved meeting people and making new friends. Early in life her husband Earl started a Trucking Company which Bert kept the books for. She enjoyed dancing, shopping for new trendy fashions, growing flowers, garage sales and taking care of her family and home. She loved chiming clocks and collected several throughout the years. Her greatest loves and passions were her family. If you knew Bert aka Mrs. Porter and Granny, you loved her. Momma was one of a kind and will forever be in our hearts. If you knew mom you knew her beautiful smile, her amazing sense of humor and her zest for life. Mom’s message to all is Be Happy!

She is survived by three children, Aubrey Porter (Barbara) of Arcadia, FL, Diane Dorsey (John) of Cape Coral, and Mike Porter (Lorrie) of North Fort Myers, FL; sister, Lou Kirkland of LaBelle, FL; grandchildren, Curtis (Wendy), Spring, Mendy, Tyler, Brittany (Brock), Tiffany, Shanna, Meghan, Blaire; great grandchildren, Wyatt, Wade, Cole, Johnny, Zane, Neecy, Kimber, Lily and Lakeyn; numerous great, great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. Bert was blessed with many lifelong friends. She was blessed with the dearest of friends, Wayne and Michelle Rhodes who were lovingly by her side throughout her short illness.

A private Celebration of Life will be held by the family per Bert’s wishes.
