Callie Denise Mahana came into this world a firecracker and left the same way. She was born on September 21st, 1971, to Marlene Murphy and Dennis Mahana at Fort Carson, Colorado. She passed on November 16th, 2024, at the age of 53 in Fort Myers, Florida.
Callie’s younger years were filled with our family moving, several different times. She attended 7 different schools by the time she was in the 7th grade. As hard as this can be on any child, I believe that gave her the nomadic adventurous spirit she had to this day. She was the biggest underdog supporter; she felt so strongly for them. She would step in when she saw someone being bullied, putting herself at times in harm’s way to protect them. Callie had a listening ear, she said many times that she didn’t understand why people felt so comfortable sharing their life’s problems with her, even people she just met.
Callie was the oldest of 4 children, Callie, Carie, Jodi and Cory. She lived her oldest child responsibilities to the max. At the age of 12, she was helping in the family business at the “Eat Shop Drive-Inn” in Harlowton, Mt. Because of certain circumstances, Callie had to grow up way too fast. She always felt older than her physical years. Graduating from high school at the age of 16 in Bay City, Texas.
Callie married Doug Reynolds from Billings, Mt. and to this union came Hailey Jean Reynolds, she was born in Billings, Mt August 28, 1992. They moved numerous times from Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Hamilton, Montana before divorcing.
Callie started her Insurance Agent career in Billings, Mt, moving up in the ranks quickly. Before establishing her own Insurance Agency, she worked with Allstate company and a few others. She had to fight “the good old boys club” in the insurance industry on more then one occasion.
As life would have it, she ended up back in Colorado Springs, Colorado where she married Brandon Cuffe, they brought into the world Rylee Christine Cuffe, born in Colorado Springs, March 29th, 2002.
Again, finding herself a single parent with 2 children, this nomadic adventurous spirit ended up back in Harlowton, Mt. where she watched her children grow and become parents of their own. Callie loved her girls and her grandchildren so much. The grandchildren called her mimi, and thanks to facetime she was able to connect with them daily. She hit the jack pot getting 6 grands from her 2 girls. Emmett, Norah, Elyse and Simon Nolte, and Evelyn and Xaylah Lawson.
Children grown, nest is empty, what do you do? This nomadic adventurous spirit hit the road again, heading for Florida with Sitka (loving known as her 3rd child) her English Mastiff. She didn’t know a soul in Florida: but followed the calling of her heart, she always wanted to live by the ocean. She wanted to train dolphins. Although training dolphins wasn’t in the cards so to speak, she did spend time in the ocean. Yes, in the ocean, she took diving lessons, and she dove, and dove and dove. I can’t remember for sure the number of dives she had but it was close to 100. One thing I think Callie would challenge us all to do is to live life, don’t be afraid to follow your dreams. She wasn’t!!!
Callie is survived by her daughters Hailey (Caleb) Nolte and Rylee Cuffe (Kane Lawson), grandchildren: Emmett, Norah, Elyse and Simon Nolte, Evelyn and Xaylah Lawson, her mother Marlene Sorensen, stepdad Dean Sorensen, sisters Carie McLees, and Jodi (Darrin) Cook, brother Cory (Marin) Mahana. Her nieces and nephews: Kylie (Kenny) Meeker, Dylon Connors, Madison Cook C.J, Cole, Morgan McLees, Briar and Kase Mahana and great nieces and nephew: Royal, Roux and Rebel Meeker.
