Carmen J. Alessi, 99, a Lee County resident since 2005, formerly of Oakhurst, New Jersey, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2015 in Fort Myers, FL. He was born on April 4, 1915 in New York to Anthony and Cira Alessi, now deceased.
Carmen attended Mt. Carmel Church in Asbury Park, New Jersey. He was a person of many trades, started working as a butcher for many years; from there he went into the automotive business as an owner of Carmen's Mobile Gas Station and Body Shop on Asbury Ave in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Carmen was always available and willing to help his friends, family, or anyone that ever needed help.
Carmen loved to joke and tease, and enjoyed making everyone around him smile and laugh; he was always kind, polite, loving and was such a caring person. His charm, sense of humor, and charisma brought joy to all around him.
Carmen loved playing Black Jack, Poker and many other card games. He could easily beat anyone at a game of Rummikub. He also loved playing Bowling/Golf Wii games. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed watching golf on TV, and he knew the names of all of the golf players.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 76 years, Emily Alessi of Fort Myers. Carmen and Emily were always laughing and joking. They did everything together. They held hands, kissed one another, and said "I love you" to each other every single day. They loved each other more and more with every passing year. Their love story is a romantic tale for the ages and it is a genuine template for how beautiful and powerful love can be.
He is also survived by two loving children, Sara Ann Appelman (Lou) of Cape Coral and Anthony Alessi (Daisy) of South Carolina; a brother, John Alessi (Aliene) of Hollywood, Florida; 4 grandchildren, Wayne Jr., Ann Marie, Anthony Jr., and Sandy; 7 great-grandchildren; as well as two great-great-grandsons.
They say that a man's life can be measured by those he leaves behind. Carmen was loved by all of whom had the lucky blessing to know him. There is no doubt that his life was a good one. A life filled with love, loss, happiness, compassion, generosity, kindness, and an unrelenting vigorous spirit that touched the hearts of us all. He will be terribly missed.
Carmen was preceded in death by seven siblings, Joe Alessi, Anna Emanuele, Angie DiModica, Frances DiBiano, Jean Beradesco, Genevive Emanuele, and Kate Dorsch.
