Catherine "Cathy" Thurston

Catherine "Cathy" Terese Thurston, 52, a Cape Coral, FL resident for the last five years, formerly of Long Island, NY passed away Monday, August 31, 2015 in Cape Coral. She was born February 7, 1963 in New York, NY. Cathy was of the Catholic faith. She was a proud mother, loving sister, beloved daughter and devoted friend. She worked hard her entire life to provide for her two children and still managed to find time to give back to the community. She always had a way of making the biggest problems look small, either through a joke or just offering a shoulder to cry on. She is survived by her two beloved children, Derek Thurston and wife Cassandra of Sound Beach, NY and Shayla Smith of Cape Coral; her mother, Margaret Thurston also of Cape Coral; one brother, Timothy Thurston of Cape Coral; one sister, Bonnie Thurston and partner Michelle Vargo of New York, NY; five nieces and nephews, Jesse, Aubrey, Faelen, Billy and Ella; three great nieces and nephews, Lola, Logan and Noble; as well as Simon the dog. Memorial services will be held 4:30PM Friday, September 4, 2015 at Mullins Memorial, 3654 Palm Beach Blvd., Ft. Myers, FL 33916. The family will receive friends from 3:30PM until the hour of service at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions in memory of Cathy Thurston are suggested to support her daughter's education.
