Clinton Norton Sims, MD

February 11, 1937 — December 8, 2022

C. Norton Sims, MD passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2022.

Dr. Sims, an identical twin, was born in Savannah, Georgia on February 11, 1937 and grew up in Pembroke, Georgia with four brothers and sisters. He was a high school basketball high scoring guard, and a champion feather-weight wrestler in college. He was a graduate of Georgia Military Academy, Emory University, and Medical College of the University of Georgia. He served two years as a medical officer in the United States Air Force before entering a four-year Ophthalmology Residency at Louisville University School of Medicine.

Norton married Judith Strickland in 1963 and was very proud of their sons: Clark Norton Sims, James Graham Sims, and Jonathan Tippett Sims, MD.

Dr. Sims began his Fort Myers Ophthalmology practice in July 1969. He was passionate about giving his patients the best vision they could achieve, and about early detection of Macular Degeneration and early identification of those susceptible to Macular Degeneration. This resulted in eight patents, much research, and many presentations at medical meetings. While focusing on his practice and research, he always maintained a youthful sense of humor.

After 51 years, he retired in July 2020. When asked why he didn’t retire earlier, he said, “ I loved my work and enjoyed my patients.” He also loved fresh-water fishing and being with his family and friends. He will be sorely missed.

Mullins Memorial Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cape Coral, is entrusted with final care.
