David Lawrence Hale, 93, of New London, Connecticut passed away on August 27th, 2023, in Cape Coral, Florida.
David was a loving husband, father, brother, friend and devout Catholic. He will be deeply missed by his surviving family members, including his son, Alan Hale; daughter, Kathleen Hale-Ignelzi and her husband Nick; daughter, Linda Ritter and her husband Dean, and his sister, June Rankin. David was preceded by his wife and soulmate of 55 years, Marion (Young) Hale; his father, Albert Hale; mother, Rena (Wheeler) Hale, and brother, William Hale.
David was a proud veteran who served in the Army for over 40 years, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He dedicated his life to the military, serving from June of 1947 to May of 1990.
In addition to his military service, David had a successful career in the pulp and paper industry. During his career he often had the responsibility of overseeing new projects and construction of new facilities. As such, David became a 2-million-mile member with Delta airlines. That’s a lot of miles! He retired as the President of BE&K in Alabama. David was best known for his leadership skills and commitment to his work.
David was a man of many interests and passions. He enjoyed boating, watching Fox News, and spending time with his family. He also loved downhill skiing in Colorado, finding solace and joy in the mountains.
David’s educational achievements were noteworthy. He graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in Engineering and Physics and later obtained his master’s degree in business administration from the University of Houston.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Home, 31440 Constitution Hwy, Locust Grove, VA 22508.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 9149 Elys Frd Rd, Fredericksburg, VA 22407. Committal services are to follow at 1:00 PM at Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Rd, Triangle, VA 22172.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of David Hale. His legacy of service and love will forever be cherished by those who knew him.
