David W. Smith, age 77, passed away on July 20, 2015 at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral Florida after struggling with a long illness. He is survived by his wife Nancy of 53 years, daughters Kelly, of Dayton, Ohio, Amy of Cape Coral, sons Randy (Genia Roberts) of St. Petersburg, Florida, Bill (wife Sandra) and Dan of Cape Coral, and sister Joan Phillips (husband Stan) along with several niece, nephews, and cousins all from the Columbus area.
Originally from Columbus, Ohio hisfirst job was working in the mailroom at Weslayan Press, Inc,and after a few years was promoted toa typesetter. Weslayan Press, Inc was purchased by Xerox Corp. where David remained as an employee for 22 years. During the same time he became an active member of the Reynoldsburg Ohio Jaycees. He was made a Lifetime Member in the Jaycee International Senate. He eventually moved his family to Cape Coral in 1983, and worked as a radiator repairman and retired as the former owner of Sun Muffler and Radiator in Fort Myers.
He was always involved in all of his childrens' sports activities,which eventually lead him to be involved with the Sunshine State BMX on both the local and national levels. As a volunteer, he received the State Volunteer of Year Award in 2000 and the National Volunteer of the Year award in 2003.
He was a devoted husband and father, and will be remembered by his family dearly and the lives he touched.
