Delos “Whitey” Cleo Hood, 102, a resident of Cape Coral, FL since 2003, formerly of Oklahoma and Clarkston, MI, passed away Friday, March 29, 2024 in Cape Coral. He was born January 1, 1922 in Pontiac, MI to Lyle Edgar and Sadie Crisp Hood, now deceased.
Delos was of the Baptist faith and attended Cape Baptist Church. He was a Veteran of the United States Army for 6 (1939-1945) years. He accumulated many metals including a “Purple Heart”. During World War II, he wanted to celebrate his birthday; he shot 3 shots from his rifle into the air to celebrate. The Germans were supposed to attack in the morning but due to him firing shots the Germans thought we were attacking first, he changed history as we know it. Delos “Whitey” Hood was a loving, passive & known for being the life of any gathering telling joke after joke. One of his favorites was. Have you ever had a honeymoon salad? Lettuce alone. Forever our jokester, forever our hero & forever in our hearts!
He is survived by his loving daughter, Dorothy “Dottie” Buckhorn (Leonard) of Cape Coral; grandchildren, Tina Bell, Vickie Townes, and Tonya Buckhorn; great grandchildren, Olivia, and Steven Ray. as well as several nieces and nephews.
Delos was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Amie Adeline (Woods) Hood in 2004; daughter, Delores “Dee” Williams; two sisters, Betty White and Marietta Dean; as well as a son, Delos Hood, II.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 PM Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Mullins Memorial, 3654 Palm Beach Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33916 with Pastor Rod Holler, Sr. officiating. The family will receive friends for a Time of Visitation from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
Committal Services with Military Honors will be held in Troy, Michigan.
