Derrek Michael Marttila

Derrek Michael Marttila, 26, a lifelong Lee County resident passed away Saturday, January 16, 2016 in West Palm Beach, FL. He was born February 12, 1989 in Ft. Myers. Derrek was of the Catholic faith. He touched so many people with his generous heart and energetic personality. His incredibly animated sense of humor and that "Derrek smirk" will be missed so much. Derrek cherished his family and friends. He would always be there if anyone was in need, and never wanted to let anyone down. He also had a great love for music that brought him a lot of joy. Derrek had such a passion for life, he loved to laugh and make others laugh as well. Derrek was a great blessing to his family and friends and will be truly missed by everyone that knew him. He is survived by his beloved mother Katie Whalen - Polewski and her husband Joe of Cape Coral; two loving sisters, Katelyne Marttila and Justine Polewski both also of Cape Coral; maternal grandmother, Christine Whalen of Cape Coral; maternal aunt and uncle, Kelly Whalen - Zimmer and her husband Joe of Cape Coral and Brian Whalen and wife Sheila of Buffalo, NY; grandparents, Jacob and Diane Polewski also of Buffalo, NY; Step grandmother Wynn Whalen of Punta Gorda FL; aunts, Sandy Schwab and husband Lou and Cindy Blas and husband Larry all of Buffalo, NY; one nephew, Josiah; as well as cousins, Megan, Erin, and Shawn Whalen; Sidney, Madi, Joey and Josh Zimmer; Justin and Joelle Schwab; Jessica and Jillian Blas; Tim and Megan Demonbruen.
