Diane W. Young

Diane W. Young, 63, of Greene, NY and a winter resident of St. James City, FL, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2015 in Hope Hospice House, Cape Coral, FL. She was born May 21, 1952 in Greene, NY. Diane was an avid reader and on-line pirate gamer with friends all over the world. She was a talented artist and loved to crochet having completed dozens of Christmas stockings for her family and the children of her friends. As a devoted wife and companion to David, she worked happily for him in his business as a graphic artist and a bit more reluctantly as a long time bookkeeper. Anyone that knew her came to love her smart, sharp-witted sense of humor and her infectious love of science-fiction and fantasy. She created elaborate party costumes and decorations during holidays, especially Halloween and Christmas. She loved to cook and her beautiful kitchen in Greene was the focus of her home. During Halloween, her elaborate school lunches were the envy of every kid. Most recently, Diane loved spending time with her grandson Logan, who looked forward to shuffle-board sessions and "bee" wrangling with Grandma in Florida. Diane never asked for many things. Instead, she gave. She gave by looking out for you, even if you were too foolish to do it yourself. She always helped others first and was a second mom to many, and because of that, her legacy reaches further than she could ever imagine. She is survived by her beloved husband of 43 years, David Young of Greene, NY and St. James City FL; two loving sons, Jeremy D. Young (Alison) of South Orange, NJ and Dustin C. Young of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; her mother, Dorothy Wells of Greene, NY; her siblings, Cindy Dudra (Tom) of Sandy Creek, NY and Dade City, FL, Laurie Searfoss (and companion Bill Baraby) of Greene, NY, and Vernon Wells (Shari) of Chenango Forks, NY; a loving grandson, Logan Young; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, brother and sister-in-laws, cousins and friends. Diane was preceded in death by her father, Vernon Wells. A private family gathering will take place in St. James City, and an epic birthday celebration will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Lake Ludlow Club in McDonough, NY.
