Donald Selby Cole, 83, a resident of North Fort Myers, FL since 2011, formerly of Highland Park, IL and Centreville, MI. passed away Saturday, November 26, 2022. He was born in Springfield, IL to Glenn and Luella Tipps Cole, now deceased.
He is survived by his beloved wife of over 61 years, Sandy Cole of North Fort Myers; two loving daughters, Terri Clay (Jeff) of Lindenhurst, IL and, Tamara McGregor (Dale) of Zanesville, OH. He also had five grandchildren, Kaitlyn Clay, Tim Clay, Kiley Clay, Skylar McGregor and, Silas McGregor.
Donald was preceded in death by his only brother, Robert Cole of Gurnee, IL.
Don was a member of the Thomas A. Edison Congregational Church in For Myers and a veteran of the United States Army. Don met his wife, Sandy, in High School and they married while both students attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL. When he received his bachelor’s degree in business, he began his career in accounting, but quickly moved into sales which began at IBM. He was a hard worker and took pride in ALL of his accomplishments. He was a loving husband, amazing father, grandpa, brother, brother-in-law, and loyal friend. He always had outside interests: boating, skiing, hunting, snowmobiling and cars. Once he retired to Florida, he joined the Miata car club, continued to enjoy boating, started dancing, learned to love cruising and loved being with family and friends. His greatest pride was the renovation project of a 100 year old Amish horse barn. He redesigned and converted it into a beautiful home on a small lake in SW Michigan. It was a very special home which was enjoyed and loved by many. This will always be one of his most memorable and treasured accomplishment.
