Dorothy “Dot” Evans

October 13, 1940 - October 22, 2018

Dorothy “Dot” Lou Hiett Evans, 78, of North Fort Myers, Florida, passed away on October 22, 2018. She was born to Wallace Samuel Hiett, Sr., and Florence Margaret Brown, on October 13, 1940 in Belleville, Arkansas. She married Wirt Thomas Evans in July of 1962.

She is survived by her son, Wirt “Chip” (Sarah) Evans, II, and her daughter Dottie Evans (Cris Mertens), and two grandchildren, Alyssa and Bradley.

Dot taught for over 30 years, in Tennessee and Florida. She moved to Florida in the late 60s, and started teaching at North Fort Myers High School as a Physical Education teacher. She also worked in asset protection at Sears in Fort Myers, FL. Dot retired from education in 2003 but continued to manage the properties her and her husband had acquired. Being a “Red Knight” was among her most prideful years. For years after retiring, she saw former students everywhere she went and loved seeing them. The friendships that the community brought her were some of the most important in her life. “Once a Red Knight, always a Red Knight”. Dot also loved to spend time with her grandchildren and travel the world with her daughter. She loved to laugh and loved the ones around her with everything she had. She was always thinking of others, gave more than she would ever receive, and thought of everyone else before herself. She was one of the toughest women you’d ever meet; battled cancer and fought long and hard. She was the best mother, wife, and grandmother anyone could ask for, and will be missed dearly.
