Dorothy J. Pickett

December 18, 1941 — February 5, 2023

Dorothy J. Pickett passed away peacefully on February 5, 2023 with her daughters by her side. She was 81 years old. Dorothy is survived by her loving daughters, Kelly Sawyer (Robert) and Tammy Parker (Steve), as well as grandchildren Seth Powell and Baden Sawyer. Dorothy was born December 18, 1941 in Washington, Ga to Ernest and Lucy Johnson, both deceased. Dorothy was preceded in death by her brother, Julian Johnson and loving husband, John Pickett in 2015.

Dorothy worked in the airline industry early in her career. After her two daughters were born, she became a stay-at-home mom devoted to raising them. As her daughters got older, she started an at home daycare where she raised and cared for many other children as her own. She then started driving a school bus for disabled children whom she unconditionally loved and cared for throughout the entire time she drove them to and from school. Due to her love for the airlines and travel, Dorothy again went to work for an airline where she retired as a training instructor. After retirement, Dorothy, who was always a doer and had such a love for taking care of kids started working in the cafeteria at the First Academy. She worked there for many years.

Dorothy loved to travel, take care of her grandkids who affectionately called her Nanny and her puppies and grand puppies. She had a heart of gold and it showed through her actions throughout her life. Dorothy was a devoted Christian and was always sharing the word of her beloved Christ.
