Edward Millis Wilcox, 77, a resident of Fort Myers, FL for the past 30 years, formerly of MA, passed away Monday, June 3, 2024 in Estero, FL. He was born October 31, 1946 in New Haven, CT to Bruce and Vaughn Wilcox, now deceased.
Edward was a Vietnam Veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Where he received a Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and an Expert Rifle Badge.
Ed graduated from Roger Ludlowe High School where he lettered in football for the 1963-1964 seasons. He was asked to try out for the St. Louis Cardinals (NFL) and the New England Colonials Football club in 1973. He went on to Fisher Junior College in Boston, MA where he graduated with an Associate’s degree in science and in Business Management in 1976.
In his later years, Ed enjoyed fishing, working with plants, and taking his service dog, Sammy, to the dog beach. He was a rabid fan of the Miami Dolphins and held season tickets for many years. Ed lived a full life and lived it his way until the very end. He will be deeply missed by his neighbors and friends, in and out of the VA. Give heaven hell Marine, “Oorah!”
He is survived by his service dog of 12 years, Sammy the Pitbull; brother, Ronald Wilcox of Sandy Hook, CT; as well close friends, Michelle Carp, Norm Friedman, and Lisa Friedman.
Edward was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Teresa Wilcox in 2016.
A Committal Service with Military Honors will be held at 1:30 PM on Monday, July 1, 2024 at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, FL 34241.
