Evelyn Ruth Jones

Evelyn Ruth Jones, 82, a resident of Cape Coral, Florida for the past 14 years, formerly of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2016 in Cape Coral. She was born October 2, 1933 in Sherwood, Ohio to Charles E. and Esther McMillen, now deceased. Evelyn was a devoted and loving wife, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Although she held various jobs in her lifetime including teaching preschool and working at Smith's Sixpence Children's store in Ft. Wayne, her preferred and most rewarding job was being a mom. Later in life, Evelyn enjoyed spending time at the family lake home on Lake George MI and traveling with her husband Jack. She was very proud of attending all of her grandchildren's high school graduations. Often they would travel cross country from Indiana to North Dakota to Nevada to Florida, always making sure to leave anywhere and anytime snow began falling. Eventually she and Jack settled permanently in Cape Coral. Evelyn enjoyed attending dog races, Twins and Rays baseball games, watching Big Ten basketball and most recently appearances of the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team. Her love of dog racing led to the adoption of Boss, a retired four year old greyhound, who was a loyal companion in her remaining days. Evelyn's calm, patient, and loving presence will be forever missed by those who knew her. She is survived by three loving children, Jack Jones (Cheryl) of Cape Coral, FL and ND, Jill Headrick (Ron) of Ft. Wayne, IN and Michael Jones of Sugartown LA; a sister, Dianna Walls (Jim) of Cheboygan, MI; brother-in-law Richard Hancock of Moose Lake MN ; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Jones in 2015; a daughter, Julie Jones; as well as two siblings, Norma Hancock and Charles A. McMillen.
