Evelyn Jeanne Pietraszka, 83, a resident of North Fort Myers, FL since 2000, formerly of Key Largo, FL, and Point Pleasant, NJ, passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2024 in North Fort Myers. She was born August 3, 1941 in Newark, NJ to Fred and Jeanne Fasinski, now deceased.
Evelyn was brilliant, beautiful, resilient, sarcastic, wickedly funny, and one of a kind. After getting married and having two crazy children, she knew she was not destined for the stay-at-home mom life. She held a number of part time jobs, once as an aerobics instructor, before she decided that it was time for her degree in Computer Programming. She did in the late 70’s what now is considered a norm. She was mom, wife, part time job holder, and full-time college student. She graduated with honors and a 4.0 and eventually landed the job she absolutely loved with the FBI as a computer specialist. Although one wonders if she loved it for the computer work, the idea of serving the country and our national security, or because she really just liked to know things other people didn’t. Seriously though, she probably would have never retired if the call of moving to Florida were not so strong.
As many know, she was a serial crocheter. Afghans, baby blankets, sweaters, etc. have found their way from her to so many friends and family. Her other guilty pleasure was reading historical romances. It started with Harlequin romances back in the day and went from there! She also loved the Harry Potter Series, books and movies. Her favorite movie, however, was The Birdcage. She saw the original in French and when the Robin Williams and Nathan Lane movie came out, she wore out that VHS tape! She played cards with friends a couple of times a week and enjoyed laughing with friends more than the card game sometimes! But she also loved Great Britain. She took several trips to London, once with 40 high school students, so you know she really loved the city. She would have emigrated there if she could have.
She also took pride in friends and family successes. Most recently when her godson Edward was named the Secretary of Agriculture for the State of New Jersey.
After Hurricane Ian destroyed her condo with three feet of water, she lost so many mementos, pictures, furniture, and more. And although she had health problems and mobility issues, she also had friends and family to support her, and she persisted. And perhaps that is the phrase that best describes this one-of-a-kind woman. No matter where her life took her, or how it shaped around her, nevertheless she persisted.
She is survived by her husband, Alexander Pietraszka of Kissimmee, FL; two loving children, Caren Hearne (Bud) of Pittsburgh, PA, and Russell Pietraszka (Kristel) of Manassas, VA; brother, Richard Fasinski (Madeline) of Barnegat, NJ; niece, Amanda Smith (Russell) of Stafford Township NJ, and nephew, Richard Fasinski of NJ; two grandchildren, Sarah and Ryan, Godson, Edward Wengryn, and innumerable dear friends and extended family.
Memorial Services will be held at a later date. Details to be announced via www.MullinsMemorial.com
