Florence Claire Chmielewski

Florence Claire Chmielewski, 88, a resident of Lee County, FL for the past six years, formerly of Brick, NJ, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2020 in Cape Coral, FL. She was born December 4, 1931 in Jersey City, NJ to Charles and Adeline Wilczewski, now deceased.

Florence was of the Catholic faith and was a veteran of The United States Navy. She had a strong worth ethic, and began her career working for the New York Stock Exchange. She later worked at Worthington Biochemical in paying and receiving. Years later, before the digital age, she and her husband owned and operated four offices of Matchmaker International in New Jersey.

She was married to the love of her life for over fifty years. They truly loved one another’s company and spent many weekends (weather permitting) going around to flea markets and garage sales. She also enjoyed cooking and entertaining. Florence and Gene hosted many pool parties (the Bye Bye Benny Party being their most infamous), as well as birthday, and holiday celebrations at their New Jersey homes. Family was extremely important to her. There was nothing she enjoyed more than being with her family. So, every Sunday, dinner was at her house. The only thing she loved equally to cooking was dancing. Hopefully, now she is reunited and dancing with her husband.

She is survived by two loving children, Charles Chmielewski (Jane) of Cape Coral, and Janet Fournier (Joseph) of Brick, NJ; two loving sisters, Adeline Costello of Manchester, NJ, and Patricia Pearsall (Ronald) of Fort Myers, FL; sister in law, Elizabeth Giardina (Dr. Charles Giardina) of Solvana, CA; two grandchildren, Tyler and Ashlee; as well as several nephews.

Florence was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eugene Chmielewski; sister, Dolores Esposito; as well as a brother in law, Bob Costello.
