Tribute to Gerald "Gerry"A. Frey
Today and everyday, we celebrate the life of a remarkable man, Gerald "Gerry" A. Frey, whose sudden passing on April 2nd has left a hole in the hearts of all who knew him. Though he may no longer be with us, the love, joy, and legacy he leaves behind will live on forever in the lives of his family, friends, and the countless people he touched throughout his journey.

Gerry was born on June 10, 1943, in Bronx, New York, to Joseph and Rita Frey. He grew up with four brothers—Robert, Joseph, Raymond and Kenneth—who were not just siblings but lifelong companions. He attended Floral Park Memorial High School and later CW Post, where his natural talent in sports shone brightly. A left-handed pitcher, Gerry played several years of semi-professional baseball with the New York Mets organization—a testament to his determination and passion for the game. But while baseball was a key part of his youth, it was his love for his family that defined the true depth of his character.

Gerry married the love of his life, Linda Owen, on September 14, 1963. Together, they shared almost 62 years of love and devotion, building a beautiful family along the way. Their children—Tracy (Dave), Jerry (Alison), and Kevin (Amy)—were his pride and joy, and nothing made Gerry more proud than watching them grow. As a father, and later as a grandfather, he was the most constant and steadfast source of support, never missing an opportunity to be at a sporting or performance event for his children and grandchildren. Whether it was soccer, baseball, field hockey, tennis, or even pickleball, Gerry was there with an encouraging word, a proud smile, and a heart full of love.

Gerry’s love for his family extended to his eight grandchildren—Dan (Alexis), Connor, Paige, Katie (David), JoJo, Owen, Shea, Maeve—and his two great-grandchildren, Cayden and Ingrid. His presence at their events, his guidance, and his unconditional love were cherished by all. His family was his world, and they were blessed to have him as their unwavering supporter. Though Gerry worked tirelessly throughout his career in sales and marketing—ultimately
working as an executive at Remline in Newark, Delaware—he never allowed his work to overshadow the time he spent with those he loved. He was also a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees, and the games were never the same without Gerry's voice or presence, whether on TV, at the ballpark, or through the radio. His passion for his team was only rivaled by his devotion to his family, who always came first in his heart. We are deeply saddened by Gerry’s passing, but we take comfort in knowing that his legacy of love, loyalty, and devotion lives on in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His life was a testament to the importance of family, faith, and the joy of sharing life’s most precious moments.

Gerry is survived by his wife, Linda Frey, his brothers Robert (Rosemary), Raymond (Kathy), and Kenneth (Rose), and his extended family who will miss him dearly. He is predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Rita Frey, and his brother Joseph Frey.

A celebration of life for family and friends is currently being planned for the fall.

As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate the life he led—one full of love, laughter, and lasting memories. We find peace in the words of John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”
Well done, my faithful son. Rest in peace, Gerry. You will be forever missed, but never forgotten.
