Gordon “Flip” Phillips Harby, 77, a lifelong resident of Fort Myers Beach, passed away Sunday, October 17, 2021 in the care of Hope Hospice. He was born April 28, 1944 in Glendale, California.
Flip graduated from Fort Myers High School in 1962 and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1963. He served in Vietnam and retired from the service in August 1970. Flip spent his life in the building industry in Lee, Charlotte, and Collier County. He devoted much of his time as past President of the Ft. Myers Jaycees, served on the Ft. Myers Beach Fire Commission, and was a past Chairman of the Board. He was a past President of Concerned Citizens of Ft. Myers Beach and a past President of the Fort Myers Beach Kiwanis 2013-2014
Flip is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Trudy Smith Harby; brother, Rick Harby (JoAnne) of El Cajon, CA; sister, Jean Harby Abel (Joe) of Sun City, AZ; brothers-in-law, Jimmy Smith (Lorraine) of Punta Gorda, FL and Pete Smith (Mary) of St. James City, FL; sisters-in-law, Judy Hart of Statesboro, GA and Patsy Martin (Kenneth) of Fort Myers; and many nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by his parents, Richmond and Cyrilla Harby of Ft. Myers Beach; stepmother, Martha Harby, of Ft. Myers Beach; father and mother-in-law, Edgar and Clara Smith of Fort Myers; and brother-in-law, Gene Hart of Statesboro, GA.
At Flip’s request, there will not be a service.
