Guiseppe “Wally” Walter Cortese, 97, a resident of Cape Coral, FL since 2009, formerly of Detroit, MI, passed away Sunday, July 2, 2023 in Cape Coral. He was born August 1, 1925, in Highland Park, MI to Francis and Anna Cortese, now deceased.
Wally was a member of Cape Alliance Church in Cape Coral, FL. He was a true patriot who served in the Navy during WWII and the Korean War. Wally will be fondly remembered for leading the Pledge of Allegiance at many Lee County events. He worked as the top Account Executive at Helm Inc. in Highland Park, MI for 22 years.
Wally lived life passionately until his passing. He always had a quick smile, a kind word and warm welcome to close friends as well as people he just met.
He is survived by his loving wife since 1955, Doris Cortese of Cape Coral; children, Victor (Joy) of Louisville, KY, Kenneth (Kelly) of Waterford, MI, Cindy Larosa (Ralph) of the Philippines, and Wendy Miller (Paul) of Waterford, MI; as well as 14 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
Wally was preceded in death by his sons, David Cortese, and Mark Cortese, and his daughter, Dawn Cortese Minch.
A Memorial Service in Florida will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at Cape Alliance Church, 4703 Skyline Blvd, Cape Coral, FL 33914. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 10:00 AM until time of service.
A Memorial Service in Michigan will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Central United Methodist Church, 3882 Highland Rd, Waterford, MI 48328. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 10:30 AM until time of service.
