Harry James Gurney, 65, a Cape Coral resident since 1997, formerly of Stowe, VT passed away Saturday, January 9, 2016 in Cape Coral. He was born March 28, 1950 in Germany. Harry attended St. Andrew Catholic Church and was a US Marine; Vietnam War Veteran. .Harry was a presidential Chef for Nixon and Reagan. He had also received 2 gold medals in the Olympics for soups and sauces. He starred in 3 motion pictures; Tight Rope with Clint Eastwood; Your mother wears combat boots with Barbara Eden; Parent Trap II with Patty Duke. He had his own cooking show in Louisiana "What's Cooking with Chef Harry". Harry also completed a 2nd series cook book in 2015, "Cooking with Chef Harry". He was a member of the AF C since 1970. Harry spent most of his time as a mentor for the 12 step kids program, standing participant in AA, and a culinary educator. He is survived by his beloved wife, Cathy Gurney of Cape Coral; parents, David and Helga Gurney of Omaha, NE; seven children, Carmen Archer and husband Craig, Trina Gurney, Dawn Gurney, Tony Gurney all of Iowa, Mark Mayo of Daytona, FL, Christopher Mayo of Ocala, FL and Michael Mayo of Ocala, FL; seven siblings, Rita Gurney of MN, Elfie Gurney of CA, Tom Gurney and wife Mary of NE, Cathel Mayer of NE, Patty Helms of AZ, Ann Moescler of AZ, Clare Connelly and husband Tim of NE; Six grandchildren, Kylie, Bridget, Dixon, Nolan, Gavin, and Mason. The most special joy in his life was Shady the cat. A Color Guard Celebration will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Jaycee Park, 4125 SE 20th Place, Cape Coral, FL 33904. Memorial Contributions in memory of Harry James Gurney are suggested to the American Cancer Society, 4575 Via Royale, Fort Myers, FL 33919. Mullins Memorial Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cape Coral, is entrusted with final care.
