Jack N. Jones, 84, a Lee County resident for the past 13 years, formerly of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, passed away Monday, September 7, 2015 in Cape Coral, Florida. He was born May 26, 1931 in Milan, Michigan to George and Lelah Jones, now deceased.
Jack spent his childhood years in Sherwood, Ohio. Following graduation from Sherwood-Delaware High School he attended International Business College in Ft. Wayne. After two years of active service in the U.S. Army he began his professional career at North American Van Lines corporate headquarters in Ft. Wayne. During that time he entered what was then a new frontier in the business world, becoming a computer programmer. Jack very much enjoyed telling people that the first computer he ever worked with filled an entire room. In 1964 he accepted a position with Magnavox and remained there until his retirement in 1994.
His initial retirement years were spent at the family lake home on Lake George MI and traveling across the country to visit relatives and friends. Moving to Cape Coral in 2002 he became a well-recognized figure as he enjoyed his long walks and conversations with his neighbors. His fondness for Bob Evans blueberry pancakes and Rib City quarter beer night were legendary to those who knew him. Once you made his favorite waitress list, you had a forever loyal customer.
You could never enter his home without being told to "take a seat" and virtually every car ride began with "sorry about that" as he apologized for not buckling his seatbelt (again). As a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, neighbor and friend he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. But our lives were all enriched because we did.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Evelyn R. Jones of Cape Coral, FL; three loving children, Jack Jones (Cheryl) of Mandan, ND, Jill Headrick (Ron) of Ft. Wayne, IN, and Michael Jones of Sugartown, LA; nine grandchildren, Lori, Leanne, Bryan, Landa, Eric, Marni, Megan, Maddison, and Maris; nine great-grandchildren; as well as Boss, the family dog.
Jack was preceded in death by his daughter, Julie Jones and her husband, Leon Gaffin; a brother, Vernon Jones and a sister, Bonnie Lanum.
