James P. Hanlon, Jr., 74, passed away on March 17, 2016. The son of James P. and Mary Louise Hanlon he was born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, on March 19, 1941. Jim graduated from Blair Academy in New Jersey and, in 1959, from Lehigh University 1n 1963 with a B.S. degree in accounting. After graduation, he moved to New York City to begin work for Haskins & Sells (now Deloitte) for whom he would work for nearly forty years. Jim became a CPA and worked as an accountant and auditor for 15 years; he then switched to management consulting specializing in large computer system projects. The last 12 years with Deloitte Consulting were spent as a senior partner responsible for risk management, contract negotiation, and work out of troubled projects. Jim retired from Deloitte at the end of 2002. Over the course of their 52 years of marriage, Jim and his wife Maddy lived abroad for eleven years in Brussels, Tehran and Athens, and upon their return to the states they lived in Chicago, Connecticut and, since 1997, Sanibel Island, Florida until his retirement. Their post-retirement homes on Sanibel Island, and in Newport, RI, have been seasonal destinations, as has been their canal boat in France which they enjoyed for several months each summer. Jim is survived by his wife, daughter Eileen Louise Hanlon of Silver Spring, Maryland, son James P. Hanlon III and his wife Mary of Wilmette, Illinois, his three granddaughters, Taylor, Ellie and Amanda Hanlon and brother, George R. Hanlon (Louise) of Atlanta, Georgia. During Jim's years living on Sanibel Island he served the community in many ways including as a Director of COTI, Director of Big Arts (2008-2014) where he was a member of the Finance Committee and booked the entertainment for concert series and was a dedicated member of the regular Current Events Group. Jim and Maddy were honored as Angels of the Year for 2014 by Big Arts. A Celebration of Life reception will be held 5 PM - 7 PM on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at Big Arts, 900 Dunlop Rd., Sanibel, FL 33957. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Big Arts in memory of Jim Hanlon, 900 Dunlop Road, Sanibel, Florida 33957. Mullins Memorial Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Ft. Myers, is entrusted with final care.
