James (Jim) Anthony Root, 69, a resident of Fort Myers, FL since 2014, formerly of Largo, FL and South Bend, IN, passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2023 in Fort Myers. He was born February 4, 1954 in South Bend, IN.
Jim was of the Christian faith and had a deep love for his country. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and an exceptional friend to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Growing up, Jim had a passion for cars, eventually becoming a mechanic in his early days – a profession that not only reflected his knack for fixing things, but also his dedication to helping others. Rock-n-roll icons like Tom Petty were the soundtrack to his life, resonating with the same rebellious and free-spirited attitude that defined his younger years.
His jokes, TV banter and storytelling would have you shaking your head in amusement and could brighten the darkest of days. His laughter filled every room he entered, reminding us all of the power of humor and the warmth of a genuine smile.
Jim loved classic cars, classic movies, and classic rock-n-roll. His culinary favorites consisted of well-done hamburgers, donuts, and Pepsi… lots of Pepsi. An avid sports fan, Jim found immense joy in watching NASCAR and cheering for his favorite teams, especially Notre Dame football. Over the years, he also picked up hobbies including photography, writing poems, and baking the best pumpkin rolls, cookies and desserts.
His tie-dye shirts and casual attire were a testament to his unpretentious nature – a modest man who valued kindness, patience, and loyalty above all else. He cherished the time spent with family and loved ones, always providing a steady hand and a warm heart to lean on.
Despite the many health challenges that Jim faced, he remained a pillar of strength, always positive, upbeat, and resolute. His unwavering confidence and easygoing demeanor inspired those around him, reminding us all to face adversity with grace and courage.
In honoring the memory of Jim, let us remember the love he gave, the laughter he shared, and the lessons he imparted.
Rest in peace, dear Jim. Your humor, your helpfulness, and your unique brand of charm will be forever missed, but your memory will live on in our hearts, where your laughter will echo and your love will shine brightly, just as it always has.
