Janet Marie Carlson

Janet Marie Carlson, 83, a Cape Coral, Florida resident since 1988, formerly of Lansing, Michigan, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2016 in Cape Coral. She was born December 17, 1932 in Milwaukee Wisconsin to George Robert and Mary Catherine Haggerson, now deceased. Janet was an amazing wife, mother, and grandmother, there just aren't enough words to describe the wonderful woman she was. When asked if she served in the armed forces, the answer was no, however quite often she found herself in the middle of a battle zone. She was a stay at home mom, raising five children with plenty of love to go around and ultimate patience, until the youngest started school. She then started a list of jobs from police dispatcher to loan officer and finally hotel manager. During an interview with the police department in the 70's, she was asked if she knew what grass was. Thinking it must be a trick question, she still answered "of course I do, we grow it all over our yard". Somehow she still managed to land that job and worked for the Lansing police department for several years. She tackled every task with a positive attitude, dignity, and grace and provided a home we were always proud to say was ours. She never missed an opportunity to stop and compliment a stranger who appeared to be having a bad time, putting a smile on their face and making their day a little better. Even as the years went by and we had families of our own, whenever we were sad, not feeling well, or just going through a hard time, we still wanted our Mommy. We will always remember your sense of humor and bubbly personality. You are deeply loved and will be missed every day. She is survived by four loving children, Cara Carr (Jake) of Lansing, MI, TariCarlson (Neil Santaniello) of Delray Beach, FL, Toni Anderson (Brad) of OakPark, CA, and Anna Carlson Soler (John) of CA; two brothers, Robert Haggerson(Pat) of MI and Dr. William Haggerson (Dana) of SC; seven grandchildren, Staci,Nikki, Zack, Cassie, Kelsey, and Marlee? two great grandchildren, Jayce and Skyla; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Fredrick William Carlson; a son,Kelly Carlson; a grandson, Cory Carr; a sister, Gretchen Blevins, as well as a "sister", Marje Haggerson. A Memorial Service will be held10:00 AM Monday, June 20, 2016 at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 SR 72, Sarasota, FL 34241.
