Retired Railroad Worker (Chicago Northwestern and Union Pacific Railroad)

Firefighter – Northlake, IL Fire Department (1976–1985)

Treasurer (1985–1990) and President (1990–2020)

Jeffrey Reed Ferguson, a devoted family man and proud retiree of both the railroad and fire service, passed away peacefully on May 14th at the age of 76. Born on July 10th, 1949, Jeffrey dedicated much of his life to hard work and service.  He built a long, honorable career on the railroad, followed by years of courageous service as a firefighter — both roles reflecting his strong sense of duty, resilience, and commitment to others.

After retirement, Jeffrey embraced the simple joys in life. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast who found freedom on the open road, and a passionate gardener who shared his love for the soil and seasons with his wife, Merry Ferguson. Together, they created a home full of beauty, love, and deep-rooted companionship.

Jeffrey’s greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Merry, and their children: Diana (Mark), Rita, Ronda (Doug), and Jeffrey (Lauren). He was a proud grandfather to Michael, Samantha, Kelsey, Ryen, and Mia, who brought him endless joy and laughter. His legacy of love, integrity, and quiet wisdom lives on in each of them.

A private service will be held on June 6th at 12:00 at St. Andrew Catholic Church, with a celebration of life to follow at a later time. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to be made to the “Tunnel to Towers Foundation”. Visit: http://www.t2t.org

Jeffrey will be remembered as a steadfast soul who worked hard, loved deeply, and rode freely. His spirit lives on in the hearts of those he touched.”
