Jeffrey Lamont Hornsby, 55, a lifelong resident of Fort Myers, passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2023 in Fort Myers. He was born April 11, 1968 in Fort Myers.
Our community lost an amazing man, my husband, Jeff Hornsby. Jeff has always had a voice and a purpose behind all his moves. He was passionate about what he believed in and would stand his ground to defend it, or me… a true patriot. Jeff was an advocate for defending our constitutional freedoms. He was one of a kind.
Jeff’s love for animals started with the family-owned business, Pet Kingdom, and it evolved from there… hunting, fishing, wrangling an alligator, rescuing donkeys, or planting flowers for the bees. He was an avid outdoors man and was always one with nature. He was also a gun enthusiast and loved to shoot and blow anything up. There isn’t anything that Jeff wouldn’t do or try, and he lived life to its fullest. He loved music, especially Hank Williams, Jr.
His passion for everything outdoors led him all over the world and gave him opportunities to meet many people. From the beaches of Southwest Florida to the mountains in Montana, the woods and swamp land of the everglades, the Panama jungle, to across the world to Botswana, Africa and back to the United States. Jeff has touched so many people’s lives in one way, shape, or form. His knowledge was so vast in every topic. If you had a question and asked him, he would educate you, whether you asked for it or not.
Jeff worked hard and played harder. He would tell you the truth whether it hurt or not. Jeff evolved over the years, but always remained a nature boy, barefoot and happy. He quite often would say “I used to run from the law, and now I run with the law”. He has been called Jungle Jeff, Horns, Uncle Animal, The Man Amongst Men, Grumpy and Cranky, but I called him my husband. He is one of a kind and will be missed by all dearly. He was a “Brother” to so many people, and he meant it every time he said it.
It’s been a beautiful life and we stood hand in hand though it all. I will always love you, till we meet again!
He is survived by his beloved wife of 16 years, Tammy Schreier Hornsby of Fort Myers; loving mother, Charlotte Weaver (Ernest) of Cape Coral; stepson, Michael Schreier (Karina Cruz); sister, Jana Bailey (Glenn) of Fort Myers; brothers in law, Eddie Schreier and Ricky Schreier; grandson, Marlo Schreier; as well as nieces and nephews, Weston, Paolo, Cooper, Carson, Chandler, Allyson Schreier, Sisley Tincher, Courtney Schreier, Edward Schreier and Brittany Schreier.
Jeffrey was preceded in death by his father, Jackie Hornsby and twin sister, Jill Swanson.
