John Wells Barth, 89 of Cape Coral, Florida, peacefully passed on February 17 under the care of Hope Hospice at Shell Point in Fort Myers.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years Anna M (Lempel) Barth. He is survived by his daughters Deb Hoofer (Larry Hahn) of Bonita Springs and Nancy (Michael) Basinsky of Cleveland, Tennessee. Granddaughters, Kathryn Basinsky of Arlington, VA and Jacklyn (Joseph) Justice of Atlanta GA.
After graduating in 1944, John served his country and enlisted in the Army Air Corp for pilot training. Following military service, John undertook Professional Studies at Marquette where he became a mechanical engineer. He was awarded multiple patents during his career with J I Case, Allis Chalmers and other mobile construction equipment manufacturers.
Originally from South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, his career took them to Topeka & Olathe, Kansas and Waco Texas. Following their honeymooning in Florida it was their lifelong dream to retire in the Sunshine State. He and Anna choose Cape Coral and made many friends while serving their community during the past 27 years.
John was an avid sailor and boating enthusiast. Along with owning and restoring multiple sailboats, he assisted with design and construction of his good friend, Richard Guglielmi's handicapped accessible Stability Catamaran Yacht. He was a lifelong member of the SAE, served on the Water Board of Lee County and an active participant in local Cape Coral Government. The Mayor and Council of the City of Cape Coral honored him with a "John Barth Day" Proclamation for the many years of community service.
A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 3 PM at the Windsor Assisted Living Facility, 831 Santa Barbara Blvd., Cape Coral, FL 33991.
