John F. Patterson “Jake”

March 29, 1953 — January 18, 2024

John F. Patterson “Jake”, 70, of Fort Myers, Florida, and formerly of Hudson Falls, NY, passed away January 18th, 2024, at home in Fort Myers. Jake was born in Sayre, PA to the late John L. and Barbara Mahoney Patterson. He was the second of five children.

Jake graduated from Towanda Area High School and was a veteran of the United States Navy. Jake was an electrician for Community Electric in Naples FL for many years. He made many friends there over the years and was affectionately known as Johnny Rotten. Jake was an avid outdoorsman.  He was an active member of the Washington County Coon and Cat Club in Salem NY for many years, where he made many lifelong friends. Hunting, fishing or scouting for any animal along the way was one of his many favorite pastimes. A good day in the woods or dropping a line in the water was a good day. Jake was always willing to help anyone in need. He would give his last dollar or the shirt off his back to anyone. Jake was always willing to lend a hand to friends, family or even a stranger. His family meant the world to him and knowing he could help them gave him great joy.

Jake is survived by his three loving children and their families, Paul Patterson (Kim) of South Glens Falls, Jamie Patterson (Melissa) of Hudson Falls, NY, and Jo-Lynn Spirowski (Mike) of Fort Ann, NY. Jake is also survived by his former wife and mother of his children, Dawn Russell of Lehigh Acres, FL.; siblings, Charles Patterson (Tina) of Wyalusing, PA, Jerry Lou Van Dyne (Dave) of Lake of the Ozarks, MO, and Joseph Patterson of Towanda PA; brother-in-law, Rick Graves of Naples FL, and Kim Ouellette, of Port Charlotte, FL. Jake is also survived by a special sister in law, Nancy Dieckman, of Carlisle, PA, whom he always thought of as a sister. A special cousin, Bernita Rice of Towanda, PA; and several aunts, nieces and nephews.

Jake’s grandchildren were the light of his life and there was not a day that went by that he was not extremely proud of each one of them and their accomplishments. He is survived by five grandchildren and two great grandchildren, Ashley Porlier (Ray) and her children, Zoey and Mikaila, Paul Patterson, Jr (Catey), Emily Patterson, and Matthew and Megan Spirowski.

Besides his parents, and grandparents, Jake was predeceased by a granddaughter, Clarissa Porlier and his brother, Mike Patterson.

At Jake’s request there will be no calling hours. Raise a glass and toast to his crazy ways. That is the best way to remember him. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Details will be updated via www.MullinsMemorial.com.

Memorial contributions can be made to any Veterans of Foreign Wars chapter in memory of Jake, or to a charity of one’s choice.
