John N. Lizzio

d. June 9, 2025

Unexpectedly on June 9, 2025, John N. Lizzio of North Fort Myers, Florida was called home by God to be reunited with his loved ones. Born on October 12, 1929 in Portage, Pennsylvania, he was a long-time resident of Niagara Falls and Glenwood, New York. John was the son of the late John and Carmella (Cuggine) Lizzio.

John, who was known to his family and friends as Jack, moved with his parents and siblings to Niagara Falls, NY in 1947. John’s father wanted to assure that his sons would never work in the coal mines of Pennsylvania as he had. Upon his arrival in Niagara Falls, John successfully passed the City of Niagara Falls Police exam.  Instead of accepting this position with the city, he accepted a position as a glazier at Cataract Glass, working there for ten years. In 1965 he purchased American Glass & Mirror working tirelessly until his retirement in 1994. John was a long-time member of the Elks BPOE No. 346, having served as Exalted Ruler in 1970-1971. He was also a member of the Niagara County Builders Association, serving as President in 1974 and receiving the Man of the Year Award in 1975.

A loving and dedicated father, an ever-giving friend and mentor, John so enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He attended 51 consecutive Lizzio Family Reunions including hosting five himself. From snow skiing in the Southern tier of New York, Lake Tahoe, Nevada and areas in between, to water skiing in the upper Niagara River, riding motor cycles and snow mobiles in the Glenwood area, to playing golf and tennis, and traveling to more than 27 different countries, John enjoyed life to the fullest.

John is survived by his beloved long-time companion Loryce Detra of North Fort Myers; his daughter Lynn and son-in-law Daniel Beseth of Lewiston, NY, son-in-law Thomas (late Luhan) DeRemer of Nashville, TN, grandchildren Alexandra (Brian) Craven, Ashley Hansen, Aaron Raymond, Eric Lizzio, Devin, Jacob, John and Ashton Lizzio, and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by sister-in-law Joan (late Joseph) Lizzio.  John was predeceased by his children Luhan DeRemer, John E. Lizzio, Brian Lizzio and infant son Christopher Lizzio. He was also predeceased by sister Betty (late Raymond) Fonte, brothers Alfred (late Ida) Lizzio, Joseph Lizzio and James (late Ann) Lizzio.
