John Stuart, III

John Stuart, III, 83, a resident of Fort Myers, FL for the past five years, formerly of Taos, NM, passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2023 aboard his yacht in Fort Myers, FL from a heart attack.  John was born May 8, 1940 in Evanston, IL to John Stuart, Jr. and Nancy Adele Whiting, now deceased.  

John was of the Episcopalian faith. He was an avid seaman living on a yacht for many years.  He worked for the family’s Quaker Oats Company in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, Los Angeles, CA, and St. Joseph, Missouri. He worked at Xerox.   He was enlisted in the USA Air Force (Airman 1st & Jet Engine Mechanic) at Roswell, NM. He was a Canadian junior water ski champion, taught children’s hockey, played on the Quaker Oats baseball team, pitcher and center fielder, the church team, played Pro-am golf, was an excellent car and boat mechanic and could fix or build anything. He had a house restoration business.  He graduated from ASU (Arizona State University) with a Bachelor’s Degree in business.  He was a very caring individual and had an amazing sense of humor. 

He requested to be cremated and his ashes taken to sea (the Gulf of Mexico). 

John is survived by four children, John Stuart, IV, James Stuart, Scott Stuart and Melanie Stuart; three sisters, Joan Stuart, Stephanie Stuart, and Nancy Volpe; two grandsons; two granddaughters; two nephews; as well as one niece.

There will be no funeral or Celebration of Life. He will always be remembered – never forgotten.
