Joseph (Joey) Levi Liles, age 75, sprouted his wings and soared to Heaven on June 29, 2015 to join thosefamily and friends who went before him. Joey was born on January 4, 1940 in Lima, Ohio.
He proudly served in the Army and was Honorably Discharged after14 years of dedicated service. The early years were spent in Vietnam, 5 years were in Germany andthe rest ofthe time he was at various other bases in and out of the country. Joey earned the Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal (2nd award), Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign w/ device (1960), Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Infantry Badge, Expert (Rifle). He retired from the Army with the rank of E-5 and he was trained asa Tractor-Crane Operator.During the rest ofhis working lifehe worked inmany types of construction fields.Growing uphe played in the family band and continued to play music for most of his life and collected a number of musical instruments. He also loved to fish and was learning to fly fish before he passed. He wasan active memberin the Combat Infantry Association, he had belonged to Lee County Country Music Association and the Moose Lodge. Joeyalso spent time volunteeringat the Dr. Piper Center andLehigh Acres Middle School afterschool programs. He also loved to unofficially adopt 'grandchildren' and sometimes their family as well. Joey managed to touch so many lives through his unique humor, kindness, straight talking and his love for life. His passing has left a hole in too many hearts to count and they will not heal until we meet up with him again. Joey is survived by his wife of 27 years, Beverly, children: George Joseph (Jacque) Liles, Kevin (Mary) Liles, Jimi Liles, JoAnn (Robert) Daniels, Kevin (Cindy) Wittenberg and Robert (Jessica) Wittenberg. Grandchildren: Jamie (Mark), Jessica (Michael), Kristina (Charles), Beverlie (Quinton), Brittany, Robert, Kylind, Shiann, Justin, Kenzie and Luke. 9 Great Grandchildren and many, many more extended family members.Joey's Celebration of Life with Military Honors will be held on Saturday,July 25, 2015 at 1 PMat Bayshore Community Chapel, 16990 Church Dr. North Fort Myers, FL 33917.
