Karen Louise Mayhood, 72, a Ft. Myers resident since 1978, formerly of Milford, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2015 in her Ft. Myers home. She was born April 15, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan to Armin and Clara Gallandt, now deceased, and spent her childhood in East Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Karen was of the Lutheran Faith. She attended Farris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan where she majored in Commercial Art. A married woman, she left school to have and raise her three children.
Karen, after 32 years in the banking industry, retired in 2010. This energetic and independent woman kept herself busy by serving as a volunteer at Ft. Myers VA Clinic and as Board President of Whiskey Creek's Village Green Section 5. When she wasn't volunteering or working on her Presidential responsibilities, Karen could be found in her garage working on the New York Times Crossword Puzzle, chit chatting with friends, down by the pool swimming and exercising, vacationing with her best friend, off visiting family in other states, walking around the community, or in Immokalee playing the slots, she could turn a $20 into $100. She was a real foodie, loved her fruit and cheeses, enjoyed cooking for her friends and family, and occasionally having a Cosmo. Karen thoroughly loved entertaining and spoiling her grandkids and playing cards. To her children, she was a rock and a mentor; a smart, generous, humorous, devoted, giving, and loving mother. Friends of Karen loved her. They say she was trustworthy, out spoken and honest to a fault, a sharp solutionist, a comforting shoulder to rely on and always dependable, not to mention a great joke teller.
She is survived by three loving children, Tory Motorny, Matthew Gundersen, and Amy Luce; brother, Armin Gallandt; six grandchildren as well as three great grandchildren.
