Kathleen Theresa Galy

Kathleen Theresa Galy, 91, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 4, 2023.

Kathleen was born on January 26, 1932 in Chester, Pennsylvania as the second child of George and Mary Hughes. At the age of eight, her family moved to Greenpoint, New York where she attended elementary and secondary school.

Kathleen later moved to Miami, Florida in 1949. She soon after enlisted and served in the Navy from 1951 to 1954 where she was responsible for packaging parachutes. After her military service, she met George Galy while completing her secondary education and married in 1955.

Kathleen and George had two children, Michael and Donna, born in Miami and Miami Beach, respectively. Initially a stay-at-home Mom, Kathleen went to work as an employee in banking operations when her children started school.

In 1979, Kathleen and George moved to Cape Coral where she continued her employment in various local banks. After her retirement from banking, Kathleen became a school crossing guard for ten years and finally retired at the age of 86.

Kathleen, an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles and the Mexican Train Game. Her love of reading opened doors to volunteering as a teacher’s aide reading stories to first graders. For decades, Kathleen ushered at Grace Church becoming its first female usher. After rising to Head Usher, she encouraged other ladies to become ushers. Her affection of the Arts enabled Kathleen to also usher at Cape Coral’s Cultural Park Theatre. Other volunteering opportunities included trail maintenance on the Appalachian Trail in North Georgia.

Kathleen is survived by her son, Michael Galy (Lyssa); daughter, Donna Coleman (Chester); granddaughers, Tonya Duncan-Ruth, and Michelle Battles; grandson-in-law, Brian Battles, Sr.; great-grandsons, Brian Battles, Jr., and Caiden Battles; and great granddaughter, Riley Battles.

Memorial Services to be held at Grace Church, 13 SE 21^st Place, Cape Coral FL 33990 on November 4, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with a repass to follow.
