Kathryn "Katie" Ann Rieder

Kathryn "Katie" Ann Rieder, 85, a resident of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and of Hayesville, NC, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2016 in Cape Coral, FL while visiting family and friends. She was born January 8, 1931 in Brooklyn, NY to Walter and Marion Powers, now deceased. Katie worked as a secretary at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Sunrise, FL and later she loved volunteering at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Hayesville, NC. She loved gardening and quilting and she was a wonderful cook. Katie had a great passion for life and she will be fondly remembered for her love of animals and nature. She is survived by five loving children, Susan Tutterrow of Cape Coral, Gene Rieder of Sebring, FL, Kathleen Diamond (Dr. Martin Diamond) of Davie, FL, Russell Rieder (Renee) of Cape Coral, and Virginia Sadlon (John) of Sunrise, FL; twin sister, Virginia Batterman of Garden City, NY; 14 grandchildren, Michael, Aimee, Krissy, Brant, Jessica, Zachary, Chad, Andrew, Brennan, Hunter, Gabriella, Justin, Elliot, and Evan; 12 great grandchildren, Daniel, Jonah, Jackson, Sadie, Landon, Logan, Lucas, Zoe, Bryce, Legend, Arianna, and Madison; 10 nieces and nephews; as well as Missy the dog. Katie was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Rieder in 2008 and a brother, John Powers. A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 AM Monday, January 18, 2016 at St. Cecelia Catholic Church, 5632 Sunrise Dr., Ft. Myers, FL 33919 with Father Frank officiating. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM Monday, January 18, 2016 at Mullins Memorial, 1056 NE 7th Terrace,Cape Coral, FL 33909.
