Leon “Joe” Elisha Steelman, Jr.

August 7, 1940 - June 24, 2016

Leon Elisha Steelman, Jr., 75, a St. James City, FL resident since 2003, and also a resident of Elkton, MD passed away Friday, June 24, 2016 in Cape Coral, FL. He was born August 7, 1940 in Philadelphia, PA.

He was an attendee of the United Methodist Church in Pine Island, FL as well as the Five Rivers Church in Elkton, MD.

Leon, most commonly called “Joe”, was also known as Pop-Pop and Papa Joe to many. He was a hardworking and loyal husband, father, brother, and friend. His generous and friendly spirit earned the respect of many throughout his life including his time volunteering in the Cherry Hill, NJ Fire Department and Army Reserves, and his long term career with Public Works for the state of New Jersey. We are all forever grateful for the life lessons, fun memories, and hospitality he blessed us with. He influenced so many lives…we will miss him.

Survivors include his wife, Josiane Steelman of St. James City, FL; three children, Joseph Steelman of Browns Mill, NJ, Jeffrey Steelman (Irene) of Collierville, TN and Jeanne Bosmeny (Ryan) of Ruskin, FL; four siblings; Elaine Garvin of Bokeelia, FL, Bob Steelman of Montgomery, LA, Joan Maxwell (Roger) of Apollo Beach, FL and Phyllis Barber (Don) of St. James City, FL; nine grandchildren; Ashley, Jack, Abigail, Alexis, Zoey, Owen, Sawyer, Samantha and Graham; several nieces and nephews; as well as Mugsy the dog.

A private family service will be held.
