Marjorie Diane Douglas, 72, a Fort Myers, Florida resident for less than one year, formerly of Glen Burnie, MD, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2015, in Ft. Myers. She was born July 13, 1943, in Port of Spain, Trinidad to H. Irving and Vivean Lai, now deceased. "Marge" as she was known, was of the Christian faith. She was born, raised, and educated in Trinidad until marrying Herschel "Tommy" Douglas, the sailor of her dreams, in 1961. She followed Tommy around the world for 23 years as a Navy wife, while raising three kids. Those travels continued in post-Navy life until Tommy's untimely death in 1993. In addition to raising three kids, Marge held a variety of administrative assistant positions always managing to find a job wherever the Navy took the family. She retired as the Office Administrator for Designs by Sean, an entertainment and event company in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Marge was happiest when "playing 'mas" in Trinidad Carnival, or better still, listening to the steel drums of any steel band. She will long be remembered for her generous hospitality, extraordinary culinary talents, penchant for dancing, and love of all things Caribbean. She is survived by two loving children, Col (Ret) Robert A. Douglas (Marlene) of Ft. Myers, FL, and Susanne M. Casterline (Arnold, Jr.) of Glen Burnie, MD; seven siblings, Barbara "Ona" (Alloy) Chin-Yew of Trinidad, Gary Lai (Jean) of Coral Springs, FL, Carol Williams of Boca Raton, FL, Larry Lai (Allison) of Trinidad, Victoria "Vickie" Attai (Lambert) of Boynton Beach, FL, Gene "Terry" Lai (Anne) of Naples, FL, and Joanne Garcia (Carlos) of Boynton Beach, FL; six grandchildren, Christopher, Alexander, Lynette, Kenneth, Rebecca and Sarah; three great grandchildren, Anja, Oliver, and Isaiah; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Herschel Thomas "Tommy" Douglas in 1993; two brothers, Stephen Lai and Donald Lai; a daughter, Marcia Diane "Dee-Dee" Lake; as well as a grandson, Patrick Morissette. A Memorial Service will be held at 2pm Saturday, November 7, 2015, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 2635 S. Cleveland Ave., Ft. Myers, FL 33901, with Reverend Howard Stowe officiating.
