Mary L. Hudecek, age 77, lost her battle to cancer on Novemeber 14, 2015 in Ft. Myers, Florida. Mary was born July 8, 1938 in Roseland, Arkansas to Fulton Shultz and Alva Richmond Shultz. She graduated from Chesaning Union High School in 1956 and Michigan State University in 1975.
She married her soul mate, Robert Hudecek, in 1956. They had 5 children; Mark, Bradley, Michael, Scott, and Kristin. Mary taught in Ovid Elsie Jr. High School from 1975 until she retired in 1993 to a mountain home in Tennessee. Her life was dedicated to her family and friends. She loved her job and working with children and she volunteered for many summer youth programs. She coached basketball and softball at Ovid-Elsie High School and was instrumental in advancing woman's athletics at the school. She was also known for her keen sense of humor.
She leaves behind her husband, Bob; son Brad Hudecek and grandson Zachary Hudecek from Tucson, Arizona; son Mike Hudecek, his wife Terri, granddaughters Ashley and Lauren and great grandson, Bradley of Toledo, Ohio; son Scott Hudecek and grandsons, Jacob and Trevor, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; and daughter Kristi Stambersky, her husband Neil of Yulee, Florida, granddaughter, Sydney Dean and grandsons, Chase and Cole Stambersky of Michigan. Lisa Hudecek widow of son, Mark, grandsons Bo and Brett (Sarah) Hudecek and great grandchildren, Faye and Izio. Mary is also survived by sister, Bonnie (Paul) Randolph, brother Jim (Judy) Shultz, brother in law Bill Hudecek, and special friend, Jana Kurrle Hath. Other survivors include many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom Mary cherished.
She is predeceased by her parents Fulton & Alva Shultz, her son, Mark, sisters Vickie Shultz, Linda Davis and Kay Warner, nephew, Steve Burch.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, November 22, at United Church of Ovid, 131 W. Front St, Ovid, Michigan. Family will receive visitors at 2:00 pm, with a memorial service to follow at 3:00 pm, and a luncheon to be served immediately after.
In lieu of flowers, Mary requests donations be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
