Mary “Jo Ann” Stewart

Mary “Jo Ann” Stewart, 87, a lifelong resident of Fort Myers, FL, passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2023 in Fort Myers. She was born July 26, 1936 in Fort Myers to George Cook and Gladys Peterson, now deceased.

Jo Ann loved her family and friends. She thrived taking care of them.  For example, her aunts whom she loved dearly.  Jo Ann nurtured any child she came in contact with. Jo Ann enjoyed cooking and baking; especially, when she could give it away.  Bookkeeping she learned working for many years with Cecil. Later, determined to keep doing them in professional style at home. In February, Cecil and Jo Ann would have been married for 70 years. But her biggest accomplishment in life was taking in three young children and making them her own.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Cecil Stewart of North Fort Myers; three loving children, Bruce Stewart (Karen) of North Fort Myers; Jeanne Blaney (Rick) of Buckingham, FL, and Sue Baran (Charlie) of North Fort Myers; Judi Henshaw of Salem, OR who thought of Jo as a second mother; brother, Mike Cook of North Fort Myers; eight grandchildren, Jessica, Dan, Dawn, Michelle, Brian, Richard, Cathy, and Chad; nine great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews, and cousins.

Memorial Services will be held 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Tice United Methodist Church, 4545 Tice Street, Fort Myers, FL 33905 with Pastor Juan Ramos officiating.

Memorial Contributions in memory of Mary “Jo Ann” Stewart are suggested to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
