Michael Douglas Reese, Sr.

Michael Douglas Reese, Sr., 70, a resident of North Fort Myers, FL for the past 15 years, formerly of Dover, DE, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2023 in North Fort Myers. He was born May 1, 1953 in San Diego, CA to Wayne Douglas Wettstead and Elizabeth Faye McHenry (Reese), now deceased.

Mike was born into a military family and moved frequently throughout his childhood. His younger years were spent military bases in California, Virginia and Alaska. As a boy he was active in Cub Scouts and participated in school sports. Mike will be remembered for his enjoyment of beaches and mountains during his young years.  The family frequently took camping and fishing trips as well as family military transfers across country, via an old station wagon with his siblings. He attended Robert E. Peary High School in Rockville, MD. He joined the Army at 17 years old and served as a Motor Vehicle Operator in Germany 1970 – 1974, achieving the rank of E4. He later served in the National Guard. Throughout his life Mike worked in Security Loss Prevention, Finance, and Deliveries of services.

Mike was of the Christian faith, a patriotic veteran who loved his God, Family, Friends and Country. He very much loved his three sons and five grandchildren. In his retired years, Mike enjoyed family times with his children, grandchildren, siblings, and his close circle of local friends. He enjoyed a simple life during his quiet times on his lanai with his dog. He will be remembered as a loyal friend with exceptional kindness. Frequently checking on others safety and needs. If not fishing, Mike, along with his local friends would enjoy the local outdoor venues with his dog and his dog’s fur friends, where they shared his fishing stories, military stories, jokes and good times. He was an avid fan of all sports but favored the Washington Redskin team. Mike will be remembered for his happiness of life to all family and friends, many of which reside in the Ft. Meyers area. 

He is survived by his loving children, Sean Reese (Alisha) California, MD, Michael Reese, Jr. of Pittsburgh, PA, and Eric Reese (Jacki) of Pheonix, PA; siblings, John Reese of San Diego, CA, Polly Smith of Denver, CO, Ronald Reese (Cathy) of Bremerton, WA, David Wettstead (Marty) of San Diego, CA, Leslie Blasingame (Richard) of Madisonville, TX, and Hillary Wilson Gibson (Ted) of Paisley, FL; as well as grandchildren, Gavin Reese (12), Garrett Reese (9), Chase Reese (14), Rylee Reese (12), and Teagan Reese (10).

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, and grandparents.
