Norman Robert Kurtycz, 85, a resident of Cape Coral, FL since 2011, formerly of Detroit, MI, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2024 in Cape Coral, FL. He was born April 17, 1938 in Detroit, MI to Theodore and Katherine Kurtycz, now deceased.
Norman was of the Baptist faith. He was born and raised on the West Side of Detroit, the youngest of nine children. He had a strong academic career, being the 1956 class Salutatorian at Chadsey High School in Detroit, Michigan.
After winning a national academic contest (which paid for his post secondary schooling) he attended Wayne State University. He graduated from Wayne State first in his class in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. He began his professional career working for Dupont Chemical Company in Delaware, but soon thereafter returning to Detroit and joining The Ford Motor Company until his retirement in 1999.
Norman and Cathy were married in 1963 and had more than 60 years together. Most importantly, he was a wonderful husband, father, granddad and great-granddad. He had many nieces and nephews and was fortunate to see many of them for his and Catherine’s 60th wedding anniversary, which he really enjoyed. Norman also liked to take his family on vacations. They were able to attend the inaugural year of Walt Disney World in 1972. They were also fortunate to travel to the United Kingdom to visit Catherine’s relatives. Almost every Friday evening, he would gather the family for the weekly visit to Grandma Kurtycz’s where many great memories were created.
He is survived by his loving wife, Catherine Kurtycz; his children, Lorraine Barraco (Nick) of Cape Coral, FL, Steven Kurtycz (Michelle) of Shelby Township, MI, and Eric Kurtycz of Shelby Township, MI; eight grandchildren; as well as five great-grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed. Until we meet again.
Mullins Memorial Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cape Coral, is entrusted with final care.
