Patrick J. Flynn, age 72, current resident of Cape Coral, Florida formally of New Lenox, Illinois passed away February 5, 2023 after a valiant fight against ALS. His loving wife and son were by his side.
He is survived by his wife, Toni (Thorn); son, Patrick; stepdaughter, Toni Deacon; granddaughters, Autumn Klauba (Andrew) and Madison Freeman; brothers, John (Andrea), Terry (Vicki), Michael, Daniel, (Kathleen); sisters, Mary Tibble (Douglas), and Eileen Kaleta (Larry); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased in death by his father, Edward and mother, Patricia (Ryan); as well as brother, Brian.
A 1965 graduate of St. Mary’s in Mokena, Pat was a two-time school/district spelling champion and finished 7th in Will County. Pat graduated from Providence Catholic High School in 1969. At the time of his passing, he was the oldest living player in the history of the Providence Catholic Football Team. In 1973, he graduated with a BA in English from Lewis University.
Pat served as a coach and Vice President of the New Lenox Boys Baseball Association and was instrumental in the construction of the first baseball diamond in over twenty years. Elected as a commissioner to the New Lenox Township Park District, he played a key role in the planning, construction and opening of the Sanctuary Golf Course. He served as a Village Trustee and was also the chairman of the Ad Hoc Committee for St. Jude’s New Church during the first three years of the project. He was an avid golfer, had a wonderful sense of humor and loved trivia games like Jeopardy (at which he excelled). He was once nominated for Citizen of the Year in New Lenox as well.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Jude’s Catholic Church, 241 W 2nd Avenue, New Lenox, IL on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 10:00 AM.
