Peter Algera, 86, a resident of North Fort Myers, FL for the past 36 years, formerly of Prospect Park, NJ, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2024 in Cape Coral. He was born January 29, 1938 in Paterson, NJ to Hessel and Margaret Algera, now deceased.
Peter was of the Protestant faith and was a Veteran of the United States Army. He was a student at Eastern Christian school formally of Prospect Park. Peter worked at the Paterson Evening News, Hawthorne Press and the Shopper newspaper. He was very proud of being a volunteer fireman in Hawthorne. Upon moving to North Fort Myers, he obtained his livery license, ran his own taxi service and told stories of the interesting and famous people he had met.
He is survived by his loving wife, Louise Algera of North Fort Myers; four children, Susan Dykstra of Hawthorne, NJ, David Algera of Hawthorne, NJ, Jonathan Algera of Hawthorne, NJ, and Ruth Ruehle (Michael) of Little Egg Harbor Township; stepchild, Michael Bessette of Paramus; seven grandchildren, Joshua, Daniel, Jennie, Thomas, Shane, Emily, and Jonathan; as well as six great-grandchildren, Joseph, Jonathan, Aaliyah, Nathanial, Autumn, and Leah.
Peter was preceded in death by his two stepchildren, Edward, and Charmain; and his brother, Albert Algera.
