Phylis Ann Patterson, 88, a resident of Cape Coral, FL since 1997, formerly of Hoffman Estates, IL, passed away Friday, August 16, 2024, in Cape Coral. She was born April 15, 1936, in Chicago, IL, to Joseph and Lucille Mioni, now deceased.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years James who passed in 2018. James and Phylis met while working together at Motorola in Chicago, a career that saw them relocate with the company several times, with stops in California, Washington and Alaska before returning to the Chicago area in 1975.
Phylis was a working Mother with continued positions at Motorola and later held clerical positions at local banks. Once retired in Florida, Phylis volunteered at Cape Coral Hospital, Lake Kennedy Senior Center, and the Cape Coral Police dept for over 25 years.
Phylis enjoyed puzzles, reading, baking, flowers and watching westerns, with an affinity for John Wayne and Clint Eastwood among others. She was also skilled with ceramics/pottery, including a blue-ribbon win at the Alaska State fair in 1974.
Phylis supported multiple charitable organizations with a focus on armed forces veterans and was a charter member of the National WWII Museum in New Orleans.
Phylis attended St Andrew Catholic Church in Cape Coral, FL.
She is survived by her loving children, James Patterson (Melissa) of North Canton, OH, and Michael Patterson (Jenifer) of Lebanon TN, as well as five grandchildren, Collin, Daniel, Grace, Jonathan, and Scott.
A caring person, Phylis always remembered to send cards to family and friends for birthdays and holidays. Her smile and sense of humor will be missed.
