Richard Lee Bailey, known as “Dick” or “Duck” to loved ones, passed away on January 28, 2023, at the age of 85, in Fort Myers, FL, where he resided since 2010. He was born September 12, 1937 in York, PA to Willard and Mary Bailey, now deceased.
Richard was member of the Protestant faith and attended North Fort Myers Church of the Nazarene. Richard was a Veteran of the United States Army. Richard is a former owner of Techna Type Printing, having also worked at Maple Press and Lancaster Press. Richard loved playing softball, and as a shortstop, he led his team, the Arena News, to victory in the 1970 PA Open State Championship, making history as the first team from York, PA to accomplish this feat. In his retirement, Richard cherished spending time with family, including his seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, as well as pursuing his lifelong passions of fishing, hunting, and enjoying the great outdoors, with a particular fondness for Ocean City, MD, and Cammal, PA.
He is survived by his beloved wife of over 64 years, Kaye Bailey of Fort Myers; two loving children, Richard Bailey, Jr. (Linda) of York, PA, and Brooks Bailey (Erin Cahill) of Edgewater, MD; seven grandchildren, Riley, Letasha, Shelby, Elijah, Shenley, Ryann, and Brooks; as well as two great grandchildren, Matthew and Madison.
Richard was preceded in death by a son, Michael Bailey.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at North Fort Myers Church of the Nazarene, 6781 Bayshore Rd, North Fort Myers, FL 33917. The services will also be available on the church’s Facebook page.
