Richard Earl Danker, 91, a Cape Coral, Florida resident since 1991, formerly of Lombard, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2016 in Cape Coral. He was born November 17, 1924 in Elmhurst, IL to Earl and Leola Danker, now deceased.
Upon moving to Cape Coral, Richard and his wife attended nearby Evangelical Presbyterian Church, until declining health kept him at home. He was a graduate of Glenbard High School (1943), and soon after was drafted into the U.S. Army where he became a flight instructor and rose to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. He spent 40 years as building engineer for Marshall Field & Co. department stores in the Chicago area. For several years he co-owned a Cessna 172 airplane that he flew recreationally, and whenever possible he enjoyed working on his own farm in southern Illinois. He began owning and working with personal computers early on, and for many years was active in bee keeping, boating, golf, fishing, gardening, and flying model airplanes.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Mary C. Danker of Cape Coral; loving daughter, Wendy Henzel and his son-in-law Ron of Cape Coral; grandson, Benjamin Henzel of Cape Coral; sister, Olive Badger of Lombard, IL; son-in-law, Norman Haun of Louisville, IL; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Haun.
A Memorial Service will be held with Military Honors 10:30 am, Saturday, March 19, 2016 at The Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 701 Mohawk Pkwy., Cape Coral, FL 33914 with Pastor Brent Lauder officiating.
