Richard Leslie Gibbs, Jr., a resident of Cape Coral, FL since 2018, formerly of Stanley, ND, passed away Monday, October 20, 2025 in Cape Coral, FL. He was born November 1, 1950 in Kalamazoo, MI to Richard Gibbs, Sr. and Helen Gibbs.
Rich was of Presbyterian faith, lived his life with a wonderful sense of humor, and an unwavering love for his family.
He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and built a long and successful career in the grocery industry. Over the years, he owned and managed several grocery stores and, in 2007, he and his wife Nancy became the proud owners of the 2-Way Steakhouse in Stanley. Rich also served as a consultant with Nash Finch for many years, generously sharing his expertise and passion for helping others succeed.
Above all, Rich considered his family his greatest accomplishment. He loved them deeply and filled their lives with laughter, encouragement, and countless stories. He especially enjoyed reminiscing about his childhood—particularly his time spent at his Grandpa Gustley’s Cabins in Traverse City.
Rich loved life and lived it to the fullest. Some of his happiest moments were spent sitting on a beach, listening to the sound of the water, and soaking in the sun. He had a special place in his heart for his dogs, who brought him endless joy and companionship.
In 2004, Rich met the love of his life, Nancy. He won her over with his laughter and joy, and in October 2005, they were married on a beach in Maui—a place they returned to often and held dear to their hearts.
Rich will be remembered for his laughter, warmth, and devotion to family and friends. His legacy of hard work, generosity, and love will continue to inspire all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Gibbs; children, Tim Gibbs (Kimberly) of Cape Coral, FL, Jeff Gibbs of Port Charlotte, FL, Carey Hirsch (Larry) of Cape Coral, FL, Richard Gibbs, III of Coral Springs, FL, Sarah Mallette (Randy) of Davison, MI; step-children, Mandy Wilson (Sam) of Dickinson, ND, Kayla Kadrmas of Sturgis, SD; sister, Mary Putnam (David) of Wasilla, AK; 22 grandchildren; as well as 11 great-grandchildren.
