Richard James “Jim” Phifer
December 8, 1947 – February 2, 2025
Richard James Phifer, 77, of Cape Coral, Florida, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, February 2, 2025. He was born in Norristown, Pennsylvania on December 8, 1947, to Frank and Helen Phifer, who preceded him in death. He made Cape Coral his home in 2016, where he embraced the warmth of Florida’s sunshine and the company of many cherished friends who filled his home with laughter. Throughout his life, one of his greatest joys was hosting lively gatherings, where family and friends came together to share meals, raise a glass, and create lasting memories.
Jim proudly served in the United States Air Force, an experience that shaped his character and the values he carried with him. His faith was a guiding force throughout his life. Passionate about the Orthodox Church, he pursued seminary studies and became a devoted deacon, dedicating countless hours to volunteering and serving his church community.
He is survived by his two beloved daughters, Dawn Phifer and Natasha Moyer (wife of Dan Moyer); his siblings, Judy Fonte and Gerald Phifer; sister-in-law, Fran Phifer; and his adored grandchildren, Samantha Herring (wife of Brian Herring), Emma Moyer, and Luke Moyer. He was eagerly anticipating the arrival of his first great-grandchild, James, this spring—a new chapter he was deeply excited for. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, as well as his loyal golden retriever, Sunny.
Jim had a deep love for Golden Retrievers. He had many furry companions over the years, but two held a special place in his heart—Odie, his “soul dog,” and Spirit, his best friend.
Jim was preceded in death by five siblings, Janet Worthington, Betty Burness, Dolores Phifer, Frank Phifer, and Harry Phifer.
No formal services are planned at this time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Golden Retriever Rescue of Southwest Florida in his honor: Golden Retriever Rescue of SouthWest Florida, PO Box 368186, Bonita Springs, Florida 34136.
Mullins Memorial Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cape Coral, is entrusted with final care.
