Richard Anthony Raincourt

May 13, 1958 — June 25, 2023

Who was Richard Anthony Raincourt, or "Richie" as we lovingly called him.

Richard was born to parents Neville Cecil & Vilma Fay Raincourt, on May 13th, 1958 in Kingston, Jamaica. He was the youngest of three children, older brother, Neville Carl Raincourt and older sister, Carol Raincourt-Moses.

From a young age, Richard had the gift of gab. He was a very active and tough child. I remember him having a piece of glass in the bottom of one of his feet for days, he still ran around barefoot as if nothing was amiss. Once, when he was seven years old, he fell and split open the top of one of his eyes. We took him to the doctor who sewed up the open wound without any anesthesia. He did not flinch at all.

As a kid growing up, he loved to eat. When he had his tonsils out at eight years old, his first words after waking up were "I'm hungry, I want some ice cream."

Richard finished High School in Kingston, Jamaica. Richard later migrated to Miami, Florida with his family. His first job was in sales in a department store in Miami, Florida, where his gift of gab served him well. Richard could sell you a black sweater and you swore you walked out the store with a white one. We used to say he could sell a hair curling iron to a bald man.

For over 20 years, Richard worked in retail sales at ABC liquor. He enjoyed his work, especially setting up wine tasting events and talking with his customers. He also enjoyed discussing current events with his co-workers. Richard worked hard at his job, but like many of us, wished he would one day, win the lottery.

He thought very highly of his roommate Eddie, whom he spoke about every time we talked.

Richard had a kind and giving heart, but he was also a complex individual. He was a gentle giant, his grand aunt named him Kimani, African for "Big" or "Great".

Richard had a child, Daniel McNeil, whom he loved and supported. Richard later married Marilyn Sobraine and cared deeply for her son, Matthew.

Richard, like many of us, also had his own demons. Over the years, he was on a path to conquer these demons and recently, welcomed Christianity in his life.

Richard enjoyed cooking Jamaican food and loved to go fishing. He was very passionate about giving donations to a Children's Cancer Research Hospital, associated as part of a yearly donation Drive by ABC Liquor. He would get very emotional when talking about these children who has life-threatening diseases and their constant battle to overcome them.

Richie, there are still so many questions that we need to ask you, and now we never will get any answers to those questions. We know you were in a lot of pain, physically, as well as emotionally.

You are now free of all the worldly pain. Rest in peace, our beloved Richard, until we meet again. We miss you, and we will always love you.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Sobraine; sons, Matthew Sobraine and Daniel McNeil; siblings, Carol Raincourt-Moses (Moshe) of Springs, TX, and Neville C. Raincourt (Kathi) of Cliffside Park, NJ; nephews, Daniel Moses of Austin, TX and David Moses of San Francisco, CA; as well as a loving extended family.
